What a great, great ad. We’ve all seen lots of creative on the dangers of texting and driving, but this spot is unbelievably fresh.

  • My Trip to Advertising Week in NYC!

I decided to mostly go to seminars talking about media/data/insight and found that the overall theme was mobile and cross platforms.

Here are some notes that I think stood out the most:

A lot of people were talking about how advertisements need to start providing more value especially through mobile / digital. Whether it’s through an application like the Starbucks app or entertainment like Cast Away or Space Jam. I agree 100% that it should shift away from just plugging in ads into blank ordinary spots and make it more engaging or interactive.

Another note was this whole 2+ screens trend and how the industry within the states are starting to measure that.

I like this because it can give us more information on what the user is doing. However, I think that we should move away from measuring per platform and start aiming to measure per user and figuring out how they can implement it. Some were saying maybe an email or even checking in with something you’re very loyal with (Facebook).

With this concept of being able to track per user, I think it can start this whole real time concept I listened to. By knowing what each user likes, you can real time customize each advertisement to suit them. Something even as simple as pasting in a song that they would enjoy.

This whole user concept may be nice too in the sense of being able to set out rules as to what is too invasive to the user. Like being able to track what they do on the web while watching TV in exchange for not going through their emails.

Overall I enjoyed ad week a lot and wished we had the whole week to go so I could be fully rested instead of being exhausted starting from day 1 but hey, at least I got to go!
